As a Vehicle Engineer III at HNTB, you will apply and broaden your expertise of Rail and Transit vehicle systems. You will use what you know to help create important system performance characteristics, maintenance requirements, and concerns related to the lifecycle of rail and transit vehicles. You will work on Rail and Transit projects involving fleet capital investment, maintenance and operations, design and overhaul, forensic science, and other engineering applications, and you may potentially lead teams. The job will be completed through a combination of team and individual effort. Some jobs will be out in the field, while others may be in an office. An Engineer III will work independently while also assisting in the mentoring and development of junior colleagues. An Engineer III will be self-directed and will continue to create a comprehensive portfolio of skills in order to advance within HNTB.

 

 

 

What You’ll do:

 

  • Completes prescribed tasks within the time frame and amount of hours specified.

 

  • Assist with the creation of project specifications.

 

  • Reports, drawings, and plans are examples of discipline-specific engineering project elements/deliverables.

 

  • Assists project team members in their collaboration and productivity.

 

  • Provides technical guidance to less experienced members of the engineering project team.

 

  • Collaborates closely with other disciplines and on cross-disciplinary projects.

 

  • Reviews the quality of discipline-specific engineering project elements/deliverables.

 

  • Aids in the organisation and planning of timetables, hours, and job distribution within the discipline.

 

  • Other responsibilities may be allocated.

 

 

 

You will require the following items:

 

  • Engineering bachelor’s degree plus four years of relevant experience, or

 

  • Engineering master’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or

 

  • A PhD in engineering and two years of related experience are required.

 

 

What you’ll need to bring:

 

  • Vehicle and system design, testing, and acceptance for a large transit agency.

 

  • Optimising work processes by understanding of the most effective and efficient methods of accomplishing tasks, with a focus on continuous improvement.

 

  • Independently advances the majority of the discipline’s designs and tasks.

 

  • Demonstrating a deep understanding of the application as it relates to engineering principles.

 

  • Time management, proactive forecasting, and communication of project development requirements.

 

 

What We Prefer:

 

  • 4 years of vehicle system and subsystem experience

 

  • Engineering Master’s Degree

 

  • EIT (Engineer in Training) certification

 

  • Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE)

 

  • Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) (depending on discipline)

The salary range in New York is approximately $77,044.74 – $150,632.34. Please keep in mind that the salary range indicated is a best-guess estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual pay will be determined by elements such as the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and talents, as well as the physical work location within the state.

Maryland’s salary range is between $80,896.98 – $138,581.76. Please keep in mind that the salary range indicated is a best-guess estimate for the position at the time of posting.
