RESPONSIBILITIES

 

What will you do?

Support system-level integration testing and certification of HEMS/DER systems, using resources such as bench, test site (mini-home), and beta homes, to enable simple and reliable integration in the field.

Lead interconnection application process for major utilities – responsible for engaging with and requesting approval of local and regional utilities through the interconnect application process to certify V2G connections of HEMS / DER ecosystem.

Prioritise North American DER integration partners (including Energy Storage Systems (ESS), Photovoltaic (PV) systems, Stationary Generators, and other alternative energy resources) based on market research and interface protocol compatibility.
Maintain familiarity with various local and regional utility and AHJ standards, processes, and requirements.
Act as a contact to Ford’s internal utilities pilot programme teams.
Serve as the primary internal technical resource for DER systems, with a focus on the controls interface and integration with Ford HEMS.

Maintain current knowledge of safety standards, operating standards, and best practices, and build DER solutions that meet regional standards and code compliance (e.g., IEEE standards, UL safety standards, and NFPA NEC code).
Participate in software code and hardware design evaluations, and debug electrical and firmware problems.

Provide day-to-day support to answer user problems, investigate and troubleshoot system malfunctions and failures, resolve downtime issues, and assist with ongoing system maintenance operations such as firmware updates and security patches. Log, escalate, and close out issues that have been identified.
Stay connected with focus groups and forums to stay at the forefront of technical breakthroughs and keep the team updated of the latest technological solutions.
Support the generation and maintenance of quality foundation papers (DFMEA, DVPR, boundary diagram, etc.) as well as design documents (state machine, sequence diagrams, interface requirements specifications).
Offer technical guidance and mentoring to other team members.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

You will have…
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering, or a similar degree
1 or more years of technical experience with PV, energy storage, and/or energy management systems.

Even better, you might have…

A Master of Science or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Controls Engineering, or another similar degree.
2-3 years of hands-on experience with PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems, including knowledge of industry standards for communication/management, product certification, DC/AC microgrid control, and reliability testing.
familiar with key industry standards such as IEEE, UL, SAE, NFPC NEC, CA Rule 21, IEC, and CE.

Knowledge of electrical grid/energy distribution, industry best practices, innovative products, and applications is beneficial.
great debugging skills, the ability to express flaws in depth, and great verbal/written communication skills while working with local or remote teams

Additional experience will be considered based on the applicant’s qualifications, and the hiring level will be appropriate for education, experience, and responsibility.

Strong communicator who can effectively present to both technical and executive audiences.
