This is a Cell Development Engineer position in Ford Motor Company’s Battery Cell Research department, which is part of the Ford Ion Park division. Battery technology is regarded as the cornerstone of Ford’s critical mission to Lead the Electrification Revolution. To achieve this goal, Ford Ion Park will deploy breakthrough advanced battery cell technologies.

You will have…

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (chemical, mechanical, or electrical), mathematics, materials science, applied physics, chemistry, and electrochemistry.
  • 3 years or more of experience developing advanced battery cell technology (graduate degrees may be considered)
  • One or more years of experience in the following battery categories: solid state electrolytes, innovative high energy cathodes/anodes, quick charging, battery safety, pilot line design and assembly.
  • Non-citizens must be able to obtain a licence to work legally with Export Controlled technology in the United States.
  • Proven track record of team-oriented research and engineering.
  • Excellent communication abilities in English (written and spoken)

 

Even better, you might have…

 

  • Masters (MS) or Doctorate (PhD) Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Equivalent), Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemistry, Electrochemistry, or Equivalent in Energy Storage
  • 10+ years of experience developing breakthrough battery cell technology.
  • Previously worked at a significant high-volume battery cell provider and/or automobile OEM or Tier I supplier in a research, production, or development role involving energy storage.
  • Advanced knowledge of battery cell-level performance and life cycle characterization methods, as well as related dedicated test equipment.
  • Solid state electrolytes, sophisticated high energy cathodes/anodes, fast charging, battery safety, and pilot line design and assembly all require advanced knowledge.

What will you do?

 

.

  • Develop, support, and/or perform focused cell development work internally at Ford.
  • Develop the cell fabrication processes required to transition new solid-state battery chemistries from laboratory to pilot scale manufacturing:
  • Carry out battery performance and life cycle characterizations of cells, electrodes, and separator coatings
  • Identify and create battery cell or pack specifications for vehicle applications.
  • Collaborate with equipment vendors and other FIP teams to create scalable manufacturing procedures that enable the high-speed production of all solid-state batteries.
  • Transfer expertise to important partners through technical design reviews and procedural documentation
