HNTB is seeing an increase in demand for projects led by experienced, technically focused professional engineers. As a senior project manager, you will be responsible for all areas of project management, including proposal preparation, work planning, system integration, budget controls, and technical direction to all disciplines in order to provide quality deliverables on schedule and under budget to the satisfaction of the customer.

This opportunity entails managing assigned project(s) throughout their entire lifecycle, from developing the scope and technical sections of proposal and procurement documents to participating in contract negotiations and overseeing the delivery of the project plan to achieving HNTB’s 4 for 4 performance: delivering quality work on time, on budget, and to the client’s satisfaction on every project. This position is responsible for managing the budget, timeline, technical needs, contractual duties, and client communications in order to achieve the project’s goals. Performs high-level technical activities while maintaining and analysing design requirements, computations, reports, and plans. Collaborates with internal and external partners, including cross-disciplinary and functional teams, to address and resolve design-related issues or concerns. The Project Manager I – Engineering supervises project teams for strategic (<$1M) projects or serves as a discipline lead on a mini-mega ($1M to <$5M) project management team.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for developing project scope and fee quotations, as well as assisting with technical proposal and contract preparation in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).

 

  • Serves as the key client interface, managing the project team to ensure that the scope, timeline, and budgets are completed and the client is satisfied. Assists in client project scoping and contract negotiation.

 

  • Performs technical discipline responsibilities such as analysis, reporting, design, specification, and production for given projects.

 

  • On each project, the firm’s project delivery plan is put into action using HNTB’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach. Oversees the formulation and implementation of the project management plan. Supervises and mentors the team to achieve the project’s overall objectives.

 

  • Coordination with managers on project staffing, including but not limited to recruiting, development, retention, and succession of project personnel; formulation of a plan for project staff reporting; and assistance with performance and compensation reviews.

 

  • Collaborates with Client Service Leaders and Pursuit Champions to support business development, client relationship building, and pursuit activities for strategic and mini-mega projects in accordance with HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA). Collaborates with the project team and marketing resources to develop effective proposal and presentation materials. Leads proposal creation and interview presentations for strategic and mini-mega projects for clients, as well as general presentations in the industry and community.

 

  • May be in charge of staff recruiting, hiring, development, and retention, as well as the creation of a staff reporting strategy, performance and compensation reviews, and succession planning.

 

  • Performs other tasks as assigned.

 

What You Will Need:

 

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering and eight years of relevant experience.

 

  • 2 years of task management or Deputy Project Manager experience.

 

What You Will Bring:

 

  • Winning, contracting, and delivering 4for4 (on-time, on-budget, quality, client happiness) on smaller projects. Identifying and escalating risk and change management concerns, with guidance from more experienced employees.

 

  • Leading a team on a smaller project or task order that has no or few subconsultants.

 

  • Using system tools to manage, track, and complete minor projects or task orders.

 

  • Using the Office Management Team to assist in establishing HNTB Sophisticated processes as needed for the project.

 

  • Interacting with a client-level peer about a lesser project or work order.

 

  • Providing technical advise to team and task leaders, as well as completing some technical work.

 

  • Understanding of multidisciplinary projects and system integration.

 

  • Proven leadership skills in rail system projects.

 

  • Electrical power system technical understanding

 

What We Prefer:

 

  • 10 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 4 years of multi-disciplinary project experience in rail systems.

 

  • Working knowledge of AC and DC traction power rail systems, including theoretical and practical applications involving various operating voltages and frequencies.

 

  • Professional Engineer (PE) credential (strong preference)

 

  • American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification

 

  • Project Management Professionals (PMP)
