JOB DESCRIPTION

Anthropic’s artificial intelligence technology is among the most capable and secure in the world. Large language models, on the other hand, are a new sort of intelligence, and the art of instructing them in the most effective way is still in its infancy — it’s a combination of programming, instructing, and teaching. You will determine the best methods for prompting our AI to perform a variety of activities, then describe these approaches to create a library of tools and a series of tutorials that will allow others to learn prompt engineering, as well as work directly with high-value partners to solve their difficulties.

Given that the subject of prompt-engineering is arguably less than two years old, this post is somewhat difficult to fill! As a result, we suggest that you include in your application a specific prompt engineering project on LLMs that you are proud of! This project should ideally demonstrate a sophisticated and intelligent prompting architecture or a methodical review of an LLM’s behaviour.

About Anthropic

Anthropic is an AI safety and research firm that is striving to create AI systems that are dependable, interpretable, and steerable. We want artificial intelligence to be safe and useful to both our consumers and society as a whole. Our multidisciplinary team has expertise in machine learning, physics, policy, business, and product development.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coach young engineers, offering both technical advice and opportunities for advancement.

  • Set goals and performance reviews for your team to promote growth and production.

  • Keep up with the newest advances in prompt engineering and modify team direction as needed.

  • Assist in establishing team best practices for prompting research and development.

  • Manage the construction of a library of high-quality prompts or prompt chains for a variety of tasks, with an easy-to-use guide to help users find the one that best suits their needs.

  • Act as an editor for a set of lessons and interactive tools that teach our customers the art of prompt engineering.

  • Work on stimulating techniques with major enterprise customers.

You might be a good fit if you can:

  • Have prior experience managing high-performance engineering or scientific teams.

  • Possess an organisational attitude and a desire to develop teams from the ground up.

  • Have strong communication, teamwork, and coaching skills.

  • Are at ease in highly unpredictable, ambiguous, and fast-paced circumstances.

  • Have a creative hacker spirit and enjoy puzzle solving.

  • Have a strong understanding of the architecture and functioning of big language models.

  • Have a solid understanding of Python programming and familiarity with data structures/algorithms.

  • Think holistically and can proactively recognise an organization’s needs.

  • Clarify unclear problems and establish underlying concepts that can be used across scenarios.

  • Have a strong desire to make powerful technology safe and beneficial to society.

  • Consider the risks and benefits of new technology in a novel way, going beyond checklists and playbooks.

  • Take an active interest in developing research and industry trends to stay current and informed.

Hybrid Policy and US visa Sponsorship:

Currently, we ask all personnel to spend at least 25% of their time in our office. Visas are sponsored by us! However, we are unable to sponsor visas for every role and every candidate; operations roles are particularly challenging to fund. However, if we make you an offer, we will make every attempt to get you to the United States, and we will hire an immigration lawyer to assist us in this.

#LI-DNI LinkedIn tracking

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet all of the requirements. Not all strong applicants will meet every single requirement. According to research, persons who identify as members of underrepresented groups are more likely to experience impostor syndrome and doubt the validity of their candidature, therefore we advise you not to rule yourself out early and to apply if you’re interested in this job. We believe that AI systems like the ones we’re developing have massive social and ethical ramifications. We believe that this emphasises the importance of representation even more, and we endeavour to incorporate a varied spectrum of opinions on our staff.

What makes us unique

We believe that big science will have the greatest impact on AI development. Anthropic works as a coherent team on a few large-scale research projects. And, rather than working on smaller and more particular puzzles, we value effect – furthering our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI. We see AI research as an empirical science that shares as much in common with physics and biology as it does with traditional computer science efforts. We’re a very collaborative group, and we hold frequent research discussions to ensure that we’re working on the most impactful projects at all times. As a result, we place a high priority on communication abilities. We do not distinguish between engineering and research, and all of our technical team is expected to contribute to both as needed.

Reading our current research is the simplest method to understand our research directions. Many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic are continued in this research, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
